    An interview with the Vanderpol Brothers on Eggs, Milk, Innovation and giving back to the community.

    eConnections, the city of Abbotsford’s Economic Development e-magazine, interviewed our Presidents, Mike and Philip Vanderpol about what innovation means at Vanderpol’s Eggs and Vitalus Nutrition (dairy division) – both part of the Vanderpol Food Group of companies.

    When most people think about eggs and milk, is hard to connect this to innovation, but at our head office in Abbotsford BC, innovation is at the core of everything we do.

    “We are more about speciality and innovation,” said Philip. “When the products get more commodities oriented, that’s not exciting for us. We like new, value-added opportunities!”

    Eggs can be exciting too, especially when you use it as a creative ingredient. Try this recipe and you’ll know what we mean by innovation! Make your next margarita extraordinary by adding our liquid egg white and turn your margarita into a creamy and frothy beverage!
     

    Ultimate Margarita

    Ingredients:

    2 tablespoons Vanderpol’s pasteurized Liquid Egg Whites

    5 oz tequila

    2 oz triple sec

    1 cup crushed ice

    1.5 cups sugar

    1 cup water

    ½ cup club soda

    1.5 cups lime juice (bottled)

    Lime wedges



    Directions:

    1.  Combine sugar, egg white and all liquids into blender.

    2.  Add ice and blend until smooth.

    3.   Pour into glass, garnish with lime wedge, and enjoy with friends responsibly!

     Eggs Bennedict with Vanderpol’s Eggs' Hollandaise Sauce

    Vanderpol’s Eggs is changing the sauce world with its new chef-inspired, ready-to-use, rich and buttery tasting Hollandaise sauce made with natural ingredients.

    “We worked side-by-side with chefs to understand what they wanted - natural ingredients, gourmet taste, consistent appearance and taste, in a ready-to-use format. People want to move away from the common salt and chemical-laden sauces in favour of healthier, more natural products that actually taste like they are supposed to. That’s exactly what we’ve achieved with our new Hollandaise sauce,” explains Pamela Ambriez, head of Vanderpol’s New Product Development Team.

    Vanderpol’s Hollandaise (and Bearnaise Sauce which was launched earlier this year) has also overcome the age old problem that makes this classic sauce so difficult to make from scratch – the tendency to break when heated. A key product feature of Vanderpol’s line of gourmet sauce is they’re heat-stable. This means that chefs can now heat our Hollandaise sauce to an adequate temperature in order to avoid potential food safety issues without worrying about the sauce breaking. This allows restaurants to exceed food safety requirements.

    Vanderpol Food Group Inducted into BCFPA Hall of Fame

    The Vanderpol Food Group was recently inducted into the British Columbia Food Processor Association Hall of Fame at its recent Annual General Meeting. Vanderpol was recognized for their long standing contributions to the Food Processing Industry, their focus on environmental sustainability and their commitment to the economic prosperity of all those involved in the Food Industry.

    Pieter Vanderpol who led the Vanderpol organization for over 40 years was there to receive the award along with sons Phil and Mike Vanderpol.

    Pieter still has passion for the food processing business “taking what is acknowledged as nature’s most perfect foods (Eggs and Milk) and creating innovative products for the world’s food, beverage and nutraceutical industries”. He refers to it as an “incredible journey” where “significant technical breakthroughs are still allowing for greater uses and varied applications for all the components of eggs and milk”. Pieter values the relationships and trust developed with the entire agribusiness value stream, from producers through to the consumer – “we need each other to prosper, we’ve been blessed”.

    The Vanderpol Food Group is an Abbotsford based family owned business, located on Mount Lehman Road. As an independent processor working in the Canadian supply managed system, they rely heavily on their agility and innovation in supplying a wide variety of customers from down the street to around the world. They employ over 150 people at their Abbotsford facilities.
